Unveiled in 2001 at the Bologna Motor Show, the Tuono (Italian for “thunder“) was introduced as a naked sibling to the impressive RSV Mille. Everyone knows the Tuono Factory now – it’s a constant winner of standard bike comparisons – but the precedent for a top-level Tuono was introduced to the world via a very limited-production (we’ve heard estimated between 200 and 220) called the Tuono R Limited or the Tuono Racing.
The stock Tuono was impressive in its own way, but the only-for-2003 Tuono Racing took it to the next level with high-end components including OZ wheels, Brembo radial calipers, and Ohlins suspension (forks, steering damper, and shocks).
All of the bodywork (ignoring the tank and seat cowl) was carbon fiber.
The seller of this example (VIN: ZD4RPC0554S000476) purchased it four to five years ago from Scuderia West in San Francisco, California.
The odometer shows 9,986 miles.
The seller had a knee replacement three years ago and he hasn’t been able to ride it since, so it’s time to find it a new home.
The Tuono Racing was offered with a full race kit – this bike includes the belly pan which has never been installed and comes with the original bubble wrap.
Modifications:
Per the seller, this bike makes “approximately 25 horsepower over stock thanks to 57mm throttle bodies (stock was 52mm), larger Siemens 4-port fuel injectors (stock was Denso 2-port), custom one-off fuel injector harness for the Siemens injectors, and a custom “Italian flashed ECU made to order based on the bike’s specifications.”
It also features a full Aprilia Racing by Akrapovic exhaust.
Gold forged OZ wheels.
Ohlins suspension set up for a 220lb rider with steering damper.
Rizoma mirrors.
Rizoma brake and clutch reservoir covers.
Adjustable rear sets.
Zero Gravity tinted windscreen.
Creative Concepts gas cap.
Black billet turn signals and gold levers.
Ventura headlight guard.
In total, this bike has $7,000 of upgrades on top of the original purchase price. No stock parts are included.
The tire codes are 3715 and 2915.
Mechanically, the seller notes that this bike is due for an oil change and the rear brake needs to be bled.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment if you’d like to come by and check it out), this Tuono Racing is offered on a clean California title with non-op registration.
