Unveiled in 2001 at the Bologna Motor Show, the Tuono (Italian for “thunder“) was introduced as a naked sibling to the impressive RSV Mille. Everyone knows the Tuono Factory now – it’s a constant winner of standard bike comparisons – but the precedent for a top-level Tuono was introduced to the world via a very limited-production (we’ve heard estimated between 200 and 220) called the Tuono R Limited or the Tuono Racing.

The stock Tuono was impressive in its own way, but the only-for-2003 Tuono Racing took it to the next level with high-end components including OZ wheels, Brembo radial calipers, and Ohlins suspension (forks, steering damper, and shocks).

All of the bodywork was carbon fiber.

According to this review on Motorcyclist, just 50 made it to the United States.

The seller of this example (VIN: ZD4RPC0594S000495) acquired it two years ago and has covered approximately 500 miles with it during that time.

The odometer shows 15,724 kilometers (9,770 miles).

Modifications:
“It has a Gabro EPROM race chip to go along with the unicorn full 2 into 2 Akrapovic titanium exhaust.”

Upgraded Ohlins remote reservoir rear shock.

Oberon clutch slave cylinder.

Integrated rear turn signals/tail light.

Sargent seat (factory rear passenger seat included).

Cosmetic Blemishes:
“There are a few marks in the nose cone carbon from use over the years.”

Recent maintenance includes new fork seals and a recent set of tires “with a track day and a few street ride’s worth of miles, 300-400 tops.” The sale includes a new battery.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment if you’d like to come by and check it out), this Tuono Racing is offered on a clean California title with registration current through December 2020.

The seller is letting it go as he likes “the adventure of finding new bikes so I think it’s time to pass this one on.” One of the rarest Aprilias ever built, this Tuono Racing rides as good as it looks. Whether you want it to display or to ride, you won’t be disappointed.
