First introduced in 2000, the BMW R1150R remained in production until 2006. It featured a 1,130cc air/oil-cooled flat-twin engine, delivering 85 horsepower and 72 lb-ft of torque. The boxer twin was paired with BMW’s advanced Telelever front suspension system, which minimizes front-end dive during braking and enhances stability while cornering. At the rear, it features the Paralever suspension. The Paralever system incorporates a monoshock suspension element that is positioned close to the swingarm pivot point. This positioning helps to maintain a consistent rear ride height and suspension geometry throughout the travel, resulting in improved stability and traction.
In terms of electronics, the R1150R comes with optional features such as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) for enhanced safety. Additionally, it includes BMW’s patented Integral ABS system, which provides linked braking between the front and rear wheels. Motorcycle News calls the R1150R “an honest-to-goodness Boxer twin that will provide years of faithful commuting service“.
