One of the stars of The Matrix Reloaded was a Ducati 996 – it featured in a fantastic chase scene which was popular enough to inspire Ducati to release a limited run of their own. The directors reportedly spent $2.5M on building a faux freeway to film the scene.

By the time the second installment of the Matrix trilogy was released, the Italian marque had replaced the 996 with the 998 in dealerships. Changes included a dark green livery like that of the movie bike and Matrix Reloaded decals on the tail.

Different sources cite different production figures – Ducati forums often state 120 or 150, while MCN says 93 were built. We may never know the exact number, but it’s definitely a low one.

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5V94B022608.

The odometer shows 21,952 miles.

It had been sitting for several years, so the seller recently (November 2020) had Ducati of Newport Beach go through it to the tune of $2,083 to ensure it is ready to ride for the next owner. The work included the following, and the bike has only been ridden two miles since.
– new Yuasa battery
– coolant flush
– oil/filter change
– clutch/brake fluid flush
– new belts
– fork seals/oil replaced
– new fuel lines
– new spark plugs
– new turn signals
– the tech noted that the tires are from 2012

Modifications:
Termignoni carbon fiber exhaust.

The wheels were powdercoated gold.

Per the seller, this was professionally detailed. “There are absolutely no scratches or curb rash anywhere on the wheels, they are extremely clean. Same goes for the fairings, gas tank, and body overall. This bike does not have any scratches anywhere or color imperfections. There are no scratches on the mirrors or even any rock chips anywhere on the fairing. It is remarkable how clean the bike is given the miles on it.”

The sale includes the original owner’s manual, tool kit, and two keys.

The seller is letting this go as he has three other 998s (including another Matrix) and he’s making room for another motorcycle. Have any 998 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments below!
