After a long series of 916-based superbikes, Ducati dramatically mixed things up styling-wise with the vertically-stacked lights and double-sided swingarm of the 999 in 2003.
The styling was polarizing but the riding experience was not. And while the base model was a quality machine, the up-spec S model came with a slight bump in power/torque (141 hp, 82.5 lb-ft), Ohlins 43mm forks, and the option for a second seat (“bi-posto”).
This example is VIN: ZDMH400AF4B010230.
The odometer shows 18,745 kilometers (11,648 miles).
This bike came us from a collection in South Africa. Maintenance history is not known, so in preparation for the listing we changed the engine oil/filter, flushed the front/rear brakes, flushed the coolant, installed a new battery, replaced the belts, rebuilt the forks, installed a new rear brake switch, replaced the left hand controls, installed a new parking light, replaced the levers, installed a new set of Marchesini cush drive rubbers, replaced the taillight, installed a license plate bracket, cleaned the chain, gave it a detail, and installed new Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II tires. Daniel did the work, he notes that the brake pads are at 75%/60% front/rear.
