Harley-Davidson’s Sportster platform has long been a popular starting point for customizers, though 2004 was very significant as it was the first year that HD rubber-mounted the engine for a dramatic increase in comfort.
We’ve seen all kinds of custom Sportsters through the years, but today’s example is one of a kind. In the seller’s words, “this bike was styled as a tribute to the great looking British sport bikes of the past with styling cues from the very collectible 1989 Honda GB500TT.”
This example is VIN: 1HD1CLP184K446398, Engine #: CLP4446398.
Per the seller, “this stunning one-off styling exercise began life as a brand-new 2004 HD Sportster XL1200R Roadster.”
The current owner acquired it in October of 2020 and has covered roughly 350 miles with it during that time. The odometer now shows 5,784 miles.
The fuel tank is from a mid-seventies Honda CB500T. The paint is an OEM Subaru color that’s reminiscent of British Racing Green and the gold pinstripes were hand painted.
The seat pan is from a Hercules W2000. The seat itself was re-foamed and re-covered in leather.
The exhaust is a custom 2-into-1 unit.
The fork ears are from a Kawasaki, while the headlight shell in a chromed British unit and the headlight is a tri-bar that was originally built for a British car.
The front fender is a stainless unit intended for a Norton. The builder also made a “fender license plate like on European bikes, and installed that with the GB1200R moniker stenciled on.”
The rear luggage rack and front fender mounting brackets are custom-built.
This Harley-Davidson is mechanically stock. It “starts and rides as new and needs absolutely nothing to ride and enjoy. Essentially a one-owner bike, it was acquired in the fall of 2020 as part of package deal with a custom car purchased from the bike’s builder and original owner.” The tires are original.
It was serviced in late 2020 with a fuel tank clean, carb clean, brake fluid flush, and new battery. “All previous service performed by Harley Davidson dealership. Complete service records from new are include with the bike.”
The sale includes an open face Arai helmet (size M) that’s been painted and pinstriped to match as well as the original fender which was also painted and pinstriped to match.
It also includes the stock exhaust, owner’s manual, complete factory service manuals, plus a few other miscellaneous take-off parts.
The seller states that it has no cosmetic or mechanical issues. He’s letting it go as he’s downsizing his personal collection. Currently located in Tigard, Oregon, this custom Harley-Davidson is offered on a clean Washington title. He sums up his bike by saying, “this bike never fails to turn heads and draw attention. It looks like it came from the factory and people love it. You’ll never see another Sportster that looks like this one, it is a gorgeous motorcycle.” Have any questions about this listing?
