Before BMW introduced the RT in 1978, a rider who wanted to tour had to buy a bike and then slap on the usual accessories like a fairing and bags. The RT was a revelation in that you could just sign the paperwork at your dealership and then immediately put on your break-in mileage in a few days as you explored the US!

The model has evolved tremendously over the years, and it’s become a perennial favorite of touring enthusiasts and police officers alike due to the combination of performance and technology, especially the Telelever front suspension, Paralever rear suspension, cruise control, electrically adjustable screen, and side bags. Plus, it wouldn’t be a BMW touring bike without heated grips!

BMW completely revamped the model for 2005 with an update to the R1150RT. As MCN said, it “was one of the surprise highlights of BMW’s 2005 motorcycle range. It was not only faster and lighter, the ergonomics and handling package is excellent too. Not just a great tourer, a great motorcycle, period.

The new motor churned out 110 hp, a 16 percent boost over its predecessor — and boosted torque to 85 ft-lbs at 6,000 rpm.

This example is VIN: WB103880X5ZM16423. The seller is the original owner.

The odometer shows 2,917 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller notes “regular maintenance for first few years and four times in last ten years, most recently in 2019..” The bike has been sitting in storage off and on and the seller notes that the bike probably needs all fluids flushed/replaced and possibly additional work to get it back up and running.
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us install a new battery and check to make sure all systems work.

Modifications:
OEM tank bag.

Top case.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Michelin Road 4 GT tires with date codes of 0818 and 0118.

The sale includes two keys.
