Designed by Pierre Terblanche, the Ducati 999R (and the regular 999 it was based on) was met with mixed reviews with regards to the exterior styling when it was first released. But no one can deny the success that Ducati had in WSBK and AMA racing with the 999R. To comply with AMA homologation rules, the states got 300 examples of the zenith of Ducati road bike technology at the time.

With a staggering MSRP of $29,995, some wondered if the 999R was worth the $7,000 premium over the 999S. Well, it was. While they shared the same Ohlins suspension and radial brakes, the R got an incredible race-bred engine with a larger bore, new head design, and titanium valves.

The liquid-cooled L-twin (two-cylinder) Testastretta engine on the base 999 produced 124 horsepower at 9,500 revolutions per minute and 75 pound-feet of torque at 8,000 RPM. The racing-oriented, 423 pound, R model saw increased horsepower and at the time, it was the most powerful production V-Twin motor ever – pushing 146 horsepower and 86 lb-ft of torque.

This example is VIN: ZDM1UB5W85BO13516. The seller bought it four years ago from Pro Italia.

“It was purchased new in Modesto by the original owner and sat in a barn on his property. His son inherited the motorcycle and it was then purchased by Pro Italia. This was a legitimate barn find. Bill from Pro Italia provided me with the pictures of the bike in the barn when he picked it up from the original owner. I have those photos if the buyer would like them.”

“This has delivery only miles. The bike is in factory new condition with all OE Warnings labels.”

“Since I have owned it, it has never been put in gear, only started every 60 days..”
Maintenance:
“The fuel pump, fuel filter, associated in-tank hoses, timing belts, fluids and tires were all changed/replaced when I purchased the bike from Pro Italia.”
Modifications:
Battery tender lead.

It is riding on Pirelli Rosso III tires with date codes of 1022 and 1722.

The sale includes 2 black keys and the red key.
