When Harley’s FX-based Low Rider first hit showroom floors back in 1977, it was an immediate success. With its alloy wheels, extended forks, and 26″ seat height, it outsold all of The Motor Company’s other models in its first full year of production.
Over the years, Harley continued to sell variations of the Low Rider derived from both its FXR and Dyna platforms. Along with reaping the benefits of belt drive, rubber engine mounts, and sturdier frame tubes, it also received creature comforts like improved instrumentation and self-canceling turn signals, as well as eye-catching aesthetic makeovers in the form of the Sturgis and Daytona Editions. Eventually, however, Harley-Davidson stopped production of the Low Rider in 2009.
