Retro-inspired modern classics seem to be all the rage right now, but a few companies were well-ahead of the game. One of the most notable efforts was the Kawasaki ZRX1200R – Cycle World called it “a replica of a replica“, as it was designed to make you think of the iconic 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica.
The 1,164cc DOHC liquid-cooled engine produced 123 horsepower, good for a top speed of over 120 mph. It’s fun but also comfortable if you’re the kind of person that wants to ride for hours at a time. It was available in silver, red, blue, and of course: Kawi Green.
Manufactured January 2005, this example is VIN: JKAZR9A115A040267. The seller purchased the bike in 2008 and states, “After owning kickstarts for so long I liked the idea of an electric start, retro styled motorcycle with modern amenities. I loved the bone stock nature of it, the look, the beauty, the style, the nakedness, the fact its never been down and always garaged – I loved everything about this bike. It has blazing acceleration and torque yet handles smoothly and stops on a dime. The beauty of a modern retro machine. Its now pushing 20 years of ownership and like many other vehicles of mine its time to let them move on to the next caretaker as I’m turning to different chapters in my life. This is an amazingly original machine, I sincerely hope an enthusiast will purchase this and give it the love and care it deserves to preserve it this way.”
The odometer shows 9,776 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “General, typical upkeep maintenance and a few simple overhauls. Oil and filters, batteries. In 2018 I
rebuilt/replaced the following: The tires were replaced both front and rear with Michelin Power RS tires. The carb bank was removed and sent out to Pete Aronson at Expensive Lightweight Stuff in Tempe, AZ (a ZRX specialist) for a complete overhaul. Upon return, reinstalled and re-balanced. Valves adjusted with shim kit, gasket and plug seals replaced, fuel tank petcocks rebuild, fuel hoses replaced, thermostat and coolant replaced, spark plugs, fuel filter.”
Modifications:
MRA windscreen and adjustable deflector.
“The original larger license bracket/inner fender has been replaced with a slightly shorter one.”
It is riding on Michelin Power RS tires with date codes of 5016 and 4717.
The sale includes one key, small box of misc parts, factory service manual, owner’s manual, and under seat tool kit.
