Back in the early 1990s, Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki were selling 600s by the bucketload. Wanting a piece of the market for itself, Kawasaki answered with the Ninja ZX-6R in 1995. It came as a replacement for the aging ZX-6, bringing with it a shorter-stroke engine, a repositioned camshaft drivetrain, and plenty of trickle-down tech like the ram-air from the larger ZX-9R.

After the turn of the century, the Big K found itself (once again) looking to gain an edge on the competition. Accordingly, the ZX-6R got treated to a slight bump in displacement towards the end of 2002, bringing total capacity up to 636cc. In combination with a new fuel injection system, inverted forks, updated brakes and a revised chassis design (amongst a number of other improvements), such changes resulted in a bike that was faster, higher-revving, and markedly better through the turns.

2005 was the first year of the 2nd generation 636, and with it came significant advancements via a whopping 150 new part numbers. Highlights include a bump in power to 131 hp, new frame, longer aluminum swingarm, and a slipper clutch. This is the bike that cemented the legacy of the 636 as the first true “street-focused” middleweight supersport.

Manufactured in February of 2005, this example is VIN: JKBZXJC105A015960. The seller is the original owner, he purchased the bike new from Honda East Toledo in Maumee, Ohio.

The odometer shows 944 miles.

It is US-emissions compliant.

The seller states: “I purchased this bike new when I lived and worked in family construction across Ohio, Nevada, and California. I wanted to replicate an AMA supersport bike to ride to AMA/WSBK/MOTOGP races. I took Ohio delivery for this purpose. I authorized Honda East (the seller dealer) to customize it to replicate a race bike while maintaining its street legal status before the bike was delivered and preserving all original parts in new never used condition”.

The seller states: “Unfortunately, I never got to use the bike as intended. In 2008 I left Ohio and by that time, I had quietly put 944 dry weather miles on it. I have ended up moving quite a few times over the years but never registered it any state. I ultimately did move the bike to California where it has been in storage since 2013”.

Maintenance:
The seller states: “As it had been sitting for so long I took the bike to Motocentro Meono (Wheelsmith Racing) for a complete service update and inspection. Service was completed 9/29/25 at a cost of $2,085. New Yuasa battery. This bike is in exemplary condition and needs nothing!”

– Full service check, systems adjust, chassis lubrication
– Fuel system clean out and service and fuel pump
– New injectors and spark plugs
– Tune map to synchronize the Power Commander
– Coolant system flush and fill
– Oil and filter change
– New battery install

The seller states: “In order to thoroughly inspect the motorcycle to ensure that everything is mechanically 100% some body parts were carefully removed. At that time detailing was performed. The bike looks as new”.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album in the “Photos” tab for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
The seller states: “It was moved a fair number of times from Ohio to Nevada to California and between different storages so unfortunately there is some minor light cosmetic transport and storage wear and tear. Also the ‘Kawasaki’ decal on the interior of the windscreen peeled off. I do not have specific recollection of how or when these occurred over my 20 years of ownership. The window decal came off around ten years ago”.
