After approximately a decade and a half with the GSX-R1100 being the top of the Gixxer lineup, Suzuki introduced the all-new GSX-R1000 for 2001. Journalists felt it was the first bike to compete with Yamaha’s revolutionary R1 of 1998, and Suzuki was able to top the R1 with less weight and more power (374 pound dry weight, 160 hp/81 lb-ft at the crank).
In the long line of GSX-R1000s, the K5 (2005) model is one of the most popular – Cycle World calls it “the last of the pure superbikes” and the folk tale is BMW specifically sought out a K5 when they were developing the S1000RR.
This example is VIN: JS1GT76A25210768, engine #: T713117352. The seller, Scott Billings, sent us all seven of his track bikes as he’s moving out of the country for a number of years to start his retirement. Why did he have seven track bikes you ask? He wanted to participate in a range of classes throughout AHRMA’s various groups (we’re selling his race trailer as well here).
Per the seller, “this GSX-R1000 covered 9,260 miles prior to the rebuild. Since the rebuild, it has only done three track sessions.” He installed a used AIM dash from a previous build that currently reads 2,307 miles. Iconic Motorbikes must classify true mileage as unknown.

Modifications:
Per the seller: “this bike was gifted to me from one of my closest friends and seeing that I rarely ride the street, I wanted to build it into a racebike so I could complete in yet another event at AHRMA, much like the rest of my bikes.
Mileage was low and I knew the history well on this bike so I spared no expense and had Seth Starnes complete the build. Sadly, I never was able to ride it but my close mate rode it for 3 sessions at a track day.”
Not pictured: Power Commander PCIII, aftermarket air filter, Woodcraft case savers, GRIP ONE Traction control.
