In 2004 Suzuki released a new generation of the GSX-R600. The new model was slimmer, narrower, and lighter thanks to redesigns of the tank, bodywork, and chassis. It also featured titanium rods, and new compact crankcases which, when combined with other improvements, helped shave over four pounds off the dry weight.
Although quite similar aesthetically to the previous generation, the most notable change was the vertically stacked headlights. The suspension components got a boost thanks to a new rear shock and 43mm inverted fully adjustable front forks. But the biggest improvement was in the brakes – four-piston radial-mount front brake calipers, activated by a radial-piston master cylinder which had only been seen on the factory racebikes. Radial master cylinders provide more fluid with less effort than traditional master cylinders, therefore increasing responsiveness and braking power. These comprehensive updates resulted in a lighter, more powerful, and more compact Gixxer for improved performance on both the street and the track.
In celebration of the model’s two decades of production, Suzuki released a special edition version in 2005. Performance was near identical although the anniversary edition sported Iridium spark plugs and vortex grooved brake discs. Stylistically, it received a special commemorative livery, numbered emblem, tinted windscreen, GSX-R750-style trapezoidal radiator, blue chain, sliders, black muffler, and a commemorative ignition key design.
Manufactured February 2005, this example is VIN: JS1GN7CA852109745. The seller purchased the bike seven years ago from Motorcycle World in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
