American fans of Aprilia rejoiced when the Italian firm announced that they would export the RS125 to the US, though it wasn’t all good news – due to EPA emissions standards, the baby RS was exclusively for closed-course riding even though it came with lights, mirrors, a horn, and everything else you’d expect to see on a street-legal machine. The 125cc 2-stroke engine is a Rotax unit, and fueling was handled by a 28mm Dell’orto carb. Dry weight was just 280 pounds and while it seems like a tiny bike, the ergonomics aren’t bad for bigger riders, either.
MCN called it the “undisputed icon of the 125cc class“, adding that its “incredible handling beggars belief.” For more information on what this pocket rocket feels like to ride, check out this review from Motorcycle News.
This example is VIN: ZD4PYA0046S000906. The seller purchased the bike in 2017 from a private party out of California and states, “I became obsessed with owning a two-stroke road bike. My options were an RZ from the 80s or one of these (in my price range). I found this one in LA, drove out and picked it up, brought it home as a running but restricted RS125. It had been imported from Europe and still displayed kilometers on the odometer. I slowly completed the modifications and enjoyed it for a short time before life changed and I no longer had the time to spend with motorcycles. You could not get this bike street legal from the factory in the US, so the livery along with being equipped from the factory with turn signals etc make this bike truly one of a kind in the US.”
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “The bike spent most of its time with me with no fluids as I took my time completing the derestriction process.”
Not shown: 34mm Dell’Orto carb and power valve. Per the seller: “The bike was fully restricted for the European market. I added the power valve and larger carburetor so as to “derestrict” it.”
It is riding on Michelin Pilot Street tires with date codes of 4516.
