Description
Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2006 BMW K1200R.
This is 1 of 36 factory built by BMW Motorrad as a part of a one-make championship European Spec Race Series which ran in parallel with the European MotoGP races. BMW designed the bike in 2004 and built it for the 2005 Motogp Support Series, never to ridden on the street and only delivered in Europe. Replacing the BMW Boxer Cup, which featured the BMW R1100S, the Power Cup bikes were based on the K1200R, with extra aerodynamic enhancements (particularly the belly fairing) and a custom exhaust which helped obtain a total of 175 horsepower. This BMW K1200R Power Cup has a scrutineering sticker from the 3rd 2005 race series it was entered. It comes with the factory Laser exhaust, with most of the stock body panels replaced in carbon fiber. This is a true racer, as seen by the Power Cup specific electronic dashboard, semi-automatic racing gearbox with an electronic quick-shifter and adjustable rear sets and foot pegs.
This particular K1200R Power Cup motorcycle is the bike that Nate Kern rode to his championship in 2005 along with Brian Parriott riding it on the West Coast, and is the only one of it’s kind in the US. Please note: the photo below shows the bike in it’s racing livery and no longer appears like this. (See album.)
“Gorilla in a Tuxedo.” That’s how Motorcycle.com described the K1200R, a naked version of BMW’s K1200S sportbike. It was big, fast, and a bit quirky – it was also the most powerful production naked bike available when it was released. As MCN put it, “The BMW K1200R is another from the latest-generation Beemers that blow away the firm’s reputation for dull motorcycles. A 170mph naked motorcycle with looks that fuse sci-fi and retro with plenty of brawn.”
