Just for the debut model year of the 1098 (2007), Ducati offered a limited edition “Tricolore” variant of the already-impressive 1098S. The S model came with lighter Marchesini wheels, a dollop of carbon fiber, and Ohlins suspension. Expectations were high for the follow-up of the controversially-styled 999, and Cycle World was impressed by the S: “on the road the 1098S isn’t just an improvement, it’s a revelation.”
The new Testastretta Evoluzione engine obviously got an increase in bore and stroke compared to the 999, but improvements to the intake, exhaust, and cylinder head helped bump up power to 160 hp. Ducati was also able to shave an impressive amount of weight from the previous model, with 11 pounds coming from the engine (6.5 of which were just from the heads).
It’s hard to argue with a Ducati in red, but if you were going to splurge for the S then Tricolore was even more special thanks to the red/white/green livery designed to evoke the Italian flag, paired with “Racing Gold” frame and wheels.
The Tricolore also came with a carbon fiber “track only” Termignoni exhaust and dedicated Race ECU.
Ducati did not officially state a production number before the run of Tricolores began, however in December of 2007 someone in Ducati’s customer service department stated that they built 1,013 examples.
This example is VIN: ZDM1XBEW37B004314.
The odometer shows 5,994 miles.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Ducati is offered on a clean California title with registration that expired in April of 2019. We do not know why the tags show 2022, however it would cost $281 to make the tags current through April 2023 in California.
