Cold Start:

Quick Ride:

The smaller sibling to the 999, the 749 featured the same distinctive styling and even better handling thanks to the slight decrease in weight.

MCN notes that the 2004+ 749S is the best buy of the range due to improved aerodynamics, a stronger electrical system, and a “beefier motor.” Said motor made 116 horsepower and 61 lb-ft of torque thanks to larger valves, and the “S” bikes stood out with upgrades to suspension (Showa TiN coated forks and Showa shock).

We’ll stick with MCN to sum up this machine – in their review they note, “the Ducati 749 was preferred by some to the 999 – and for good reason. The smaller engine makes just the right amount of power for the chassis in certain road riding situations. The 749 has a kind of balance, an addictive precision in its steering, acceleration and braking that makes it a machine that surprises riders with its understated ability.”
