As Ducatiβs superbikes evolved, so too did the Monster lineup. But by the middle-aughts, the Italian marque was facing increasingly fierce competition from fellow European manufacturers like Triumph and KTM. So in 2006, Ducati shoehorned the powertrain from its 998 superbike into the Monster. Two years later, Ducati one-upped itself, this time delivering what was essentially a naked version of its World Superbike Championship-winning 999 model.
Dubbed the S4RS, the naked was powered by Ducatiβs Testastretta 998cc engine. The water-cooled narrow-head motor featured Marelli FI with competition-derived 12-hole injectors and an auxiliary oil cooler. The race-bred L-Twin redlined at 10,500 rpm, putting down 130 hp at 9,500rpm and 77 ft-lbs of torque at 7,500rpm. Despite being housed in Ducatiβs trademark tubular trellis frame, the companyβs designers did a stellar job of hiding the modelβs slew of wiring and sensors so they could highlight the crown jewel of the bike: the engine.
The 390lb (177kg) S4R S also boasted an array of competition-grade componentry, much of it borrowed from the R-spec 999. 43mm inverted Γhlins forks with low-friction titanium nitride coating, Γhlins monoshock, aluminum single-sided swing-arm, four-pot Brembo P34 brakes with dual 320mm discs, and forged ten-arm alloy Marchesini rims were all standard fare on the hopped-up naked.
This example is VIN: ZDM1RB5T07B086325. The seller is the third owner, he acquired it almost two years ago.
During his ownership, he has covered roughly 500 miles. The odometer shows 27,416 miles.
“This bike was originally owned by a FedEx pilot. He is an enthusiast with multiple bikes and a frequent and valued customer at Ducati Austin. I found the bike on Marketplace in ’23 for sale from the second owner. He did not own it very long, I donβt even think a year. He was living in the Austin area and purchased it also an enthusiast and aviation mechanic he was originally from the NE and has an S4RS up there at his permanent home. So he purchased this one while he was living here temporarily. When he told me the info in the bike I called the service mgr Josh at Ducati Austin and asked him about the original owner and the bike. They were more than familiar with the bike and original owner and told me the original owner took great care of his bikes and threw the best parts at them. So I purchased it. It was then taken to Ducati Austin for service and a full re-tune. The previous owner had the bike sent to Minnesota to his tuner and the bike ran lean back here in Texas. So it needed a retune. Ducati Austin also replaced some temp sensors and flashed the ECU for fans to engage at 195. I have a binder with docs and handwritten service notes from the original owner along with the regular service manual and the full Ducati tech service manual in a separate binder.”
