Despite the retro styling, the Ducati GT1000 was nearly a decade ahead of its time as it had already been killed off well before all the other OEMs started the current rebirth of retro-styled motorcycles – that’s one of the reasons they’ve turned into cult classics.
It was a modern take on Ducati’s older GT bikes, and it was the most comfortable of the SportClassic line.
The twin-cylinder engine produced 92 horsepower. Cycle World called this one of the best standard used bike buys out there, also noting that there wasn’t much competition because of its trend setting styling.
As any Ducatista will know, many SportClassics produced from ~2006-2010 experienced tank swelling due to a reaction with ethanol additives in pump fuel. Thankfully, aftermarket aluminum replacements are available, allowing you to ride worry-free without risk of expansion. The example you see before you bears one such tank, an upgrade that the previous owner stated “cost about $3,200 and then another $800 to have it painted.”
Manufactured April 2006, this example is VIN: ZDM1WABP97B005221, engine # WAB7032894. The seller acquired the bike through an Iconic Motorbikes Auction and had it shipped to our facility for service work. Unfortunately, the ergonomics will not work for him, so he’s since decided to let this GT1000 go to a new home.
The odometer shows 16,965 miles.
