In the late 2000s, BMW debuted three bikes under its HP2 line – the acronym stood for High Performance 2-Cylinder.
The triumvirate consisted of the Enduro, the Megamoto, and the Sport. While each bike is far from commonplace, the Megamoto (BMW’s take on a beefed-up supermoto) is quite a rare beast indeed. It was only sold in 2008, and the German brand brought just 107 examples stateside.
Like its siblings, the Megamoto featured a 1,170cc boxer twin. In this application, it produced a thumping 113 horsepower and 85 pound-feet of torque — plenty of grunt to tear up the road. Arguably more impressive, though, was the dry weight: just 393lbs. Of course, that’s quite a bit larger by typical supermoto standards, but it amounts to quite the diet when you consider BMW’s other big bikes of the time.
In order to accomplish such a feat, BMW stripped away all of the fat from its R1200. Moreover, the Megamoto came equipped with tons of top-shelf components like Brembo brakes, an Öhlins rear shock, a set of Marzocchi forks, and an Akrapovič exhaust.
