Upon its introduction in 1999, BMW’s R1150GS redefined the adventure bike category. By 2004, however, the model was beginning to show its age. In order to stay competitive, BMW had to give it an overhaul.

What resulted was the R1200GS, a platform that weighed some 66lbs lighter than its predecessor with the added benefit of a further 19hp.

Of course, BMW’s refinements didn’t end with the bike’s launch; over the years, the German motorcycle manufacturer continued to update the R1200GS. For 2007, the engine got an additional 5hp, while the brakes benefitted from a new Integral ABS II antilock system (without the noisy servo assistance). Assuming you wanted the absolute pinnacle of performance, BMW would also sell you optional add-ons such as electronic suspension adjustment and Automatic Stability Control.

As Cycle World said in its first-ride review: “The GS looks as neat and sharp as ever, but on the road it feels a million bucks stronger and much more fun.”

This example is VIN: WB10313078ZU45185. Per the seller, “I bought it from a German guy in PA. It has spent it’s life in service to two older gentlemen, the seller’s elderly father and, before that, his father’s best friend. He sold it to keep his father from continuing to ride it. It has a fair number of miles, although low for a GS, but it was well cared for and never run hard or off the pavement. It’s a solid example with decades of useful life left. I had high hopes of doing multi-day trips on the bike, but my current work schedule and recurring back issues have prevented that. It’s a nice bike in great condition, and I will likely regret selling it.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 70 miles. The odometer shows 30,991 miles.

Maintenance:
The prior owner kept a maintenance log dating back to his original purchase. There are handwritten service records dated between 2008 and 2016. In 2016, the prior owner had the rear wheel flange warrantied, the alternator belt replaced, the rocker arms and valves adjusted, the clutch fluid flushed, and the right heated grip replaced.

In preparation for the listing, the seller had our service department replace the rear brake pads, flush the rear brake fluid, and install a new Continental Conti Trail Attack 2 front tire.
