Upon its introduction in 1999, BMW’s R1150GS redefined the adventure bike category. By 2004, however, the model was beginning to show its age. In order to stay competitive, BMW had to give it an overhaul.

What resulted was the R1200GS, a platform that weighed some 66lbs lighter than its predecessor with the added benefit of a further 19hp.

Of course, BMW’s refinements didn’t end with the bike’s launch; over the years, the German motorcycle manufacturer continued to update the R1200GS. For 2007, the engine got an additional 5hp, while the brakes benefitted from a new Integral ABS II antilock system (without the noisy servo assistance). Assuming you wanted the absolute pinnacle of performance, BMW would also sell you optional add-ons such as electronic suspension adjustment and Automatic Stability Control.

If you want the ultimate package in Beemer’s touring line, the Adventure comes with a hefty 8.7 gallon fuel tank, good for 300 miles, bigger windshield, bigger footpegs, knobby tires, and shocks with 20mm more travel. It also sports some armor to protect against falls, crash bars wrap the tank, head guards appear on the cylinder heads, and hand guards out front the grips.

This example is VIN: WB10390058ZT98144. The seller purchased the bike in 2009 from a private party out of Las Vegas, Nevada, and states, “Originally built to travel the world. She began her journey with me as a yellow/black livery bike which my son dubbed “Bumblebee” because of the color scheme (not the Transformer..) Alas, life intervened and she was relegated to a wistful dream and used for parades, local commutes, and the occasional bike show. Fast forward to COVID & 15 months of lockdown and isolation provided me with the time to fully realize my original vision for this motorcycle. NO EXPENSE SPARED on this machine. Performance upgrades make her growl through the Black Widow downpipes and GPR muffler. Cosmetic upgrades throughout with stunning matte Black paintwork, custom black upholstery, reflective black custom decals including all BMW logos blacked out. There are tongue-in-cheek logos (X-Drive) and a touch of whimsy with the 3 Bumblebees enamel logos which were added as a nod to my sons nickname for the bike. Our adventures we called “Flight of the Bumblebee” which in German translates to “Hummelflug” – and thus she remains named in our household. There are 2 versions of the bike: standard tourer or a stripped down “streetfighter” look with mini flyscreen and custom rear seat cover. All components are provided to allow the new owner to switch between the 2 versions as the mood takes them! I have invested countless hours, researched extensively and spent in excess of $60K to bring my vision to life. My hope is that she finds a home with a rider who can admire her for the feat of engineering she is, and/or the beautiful presence she commands.”

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 9,205 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller reports regular oil changes and, “Outstanding recall due for fuel pump – light is on as a consequence. ANY BMW dealership will take care of this. I do not have the time to remedy at this point.”

Modifications:
From the seller, “The EZS sidecar was imported from Holland w/ an independent brake and was crafted at DMC in Enumclaw by their chief engineer “Barry”. This was a 9-month initial build. Sidecars come in many guises and there are more than a few “ADV” hacks on the market: a new URAL can command a price north of $30K. However, there is NOTHING like this bike ANYWHERE. I’m constantly asked if this is a “factory” bike because it’s the perfect pairing. The lines of the EZS compliment the GSA more than anything else out there. There are many options for becoming a “hack-pilot” and this rig is meant for the true cognoscenti.”
