2026-10-24 11:50:00 2026-10-24 12:00:00 America/Los_Angeles 2008 Ducati 1098R Valley Village, California - A true World Superbike homologation special, the Ducati 1098R went far beyond the standard 1098 with a larger 1,198cc engine, titanium connecting rods and valves, magnesium components, and eight stage traction control. https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/2008-ducati-1098r-6/ Iconic Motorbike Auctions concierge@iconicmotorbikes.com

Please Note: This bike is being sold on a Bill of Sale, though the VINData report notes that it was issued a Salvage title in October 2023. The seller states: “There was a small tip over by owner’s friend during a bike swap, which damaged the left side fairing and tail, enough for it to be salvaged due to the cost of replacement OE carbon parts. You can see the original listing on Iconic for reference and see that all the other parts are un-damaged and /or original.”

Cold Start Video:

Revving when warm:

Built for homologation purposes, the 1098R was Ducati’s entry into World Superbike. It brought back something from the past (side by side headlights, à la the 916) and introduced something new – the first implementation of electronic traction control on a production street bike.

Bike Social calls it a Future Classic, saying “in many ways it is the last of the ‘proper’ Ducati homologation specials. That is to say it bears absolutely no resemblance to the road bike it is meant to be based on! Capacity, engine, chassis, just about every component on the 1098R when compared to the 1098 road bike was altered as Ducati needed to get back into winning ways.”

They weren’t kidding – despite the “1098” name and the 1,099cc motor in the regular 1098 model, the 1098R engine displaces 1,198cc thanks to increases in both bore and stroke. The Italians utilized titanium for the connecting rods and the (larger) valves, a slipper clutch, strengthened rocker arms, magnesium cam covers, lighter pistons…you get the idea. Just like some “R” specials before it, the 1098 gets Ohlins suspension/steering damper, carbon fiber bodywork, and upgraded Brembo brakes.

You also get Marchesini wheels, a magnesium front subframe, and the novel eight-stage traction control. The price for “the most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle ever built”? $40,000.

This example is VIN: ZDM1XBHW48B015884. The seller acquired it from a private party through Iconic Motorbikes in October 2021.

Engine #: XBH8000506.

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 3,000 miles. The odometer shows 6,691 miles.

“This is one of the most sorted 1098R track bikes that I know of. Most usable and turn-key, even without a key. Needs nothing and does mid 2:20s at COTA and mid 1:30s at Laguna. 1:50 at Buttonwillow Circuit most recently. Perfectly balanced power, chassis, brake and drivetrain. Quickshifter and slipper are a must have for this bike and clutch was replaced last winter. Brake package (with upgraded calipers and ultra-exotic TK Italy Rotors) is impeccable and I will include carbon brake cooling ducts. Numerous spare brake pads and miscellaneous parts will be included in sale. All service, including a Desmo service by Mark at ProItalia last winter. Bike has been ridden by Joe Roberts at Laguna and Miguel Oliveira at COTA.”

“I love the way the factory 1098R looks, so when setting out to do this track build, I tried my utmost to retain the factory look and create a tasteful OEM+ race bike. Even though all the bodywork is carbon and aftermarket, it still carries the beloved 1098R look. Now I’m exclusively riding my HP4 Race. Would like to find this bike a good home and someone that can continue using it as intended.”
