After the polarizing style of the 999’s vertically-stacked headlights, Ducati went back to the single sided swingarm, exhaust under the taillights, and side by side eyes made famous on the 916 – this time with a modern twist.
It was well-received – Cycle World said “On the road the 1098S isn’t just an improvement, it’s a revelation.” The 1099cc Testastretta Evoluzione twin engine produced a claimed 160 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque at the crank, good for a 10.015 second quarter-mile time and a top speed of 173 miles per hour.
Ducati offered an upgraded S model, which featured Ohlins suspension, forged Marchesini wheels, and some extra carbon fiber bits.
This example is VIN: ZDM1XBEWX8B016784. The seller states “I got my motorcycle license for my Honda Monkey, so after that I thought now that I went through all that I should get a sport bike to learn more and hopefully take to the track. I always wanted a sport bike but never trusted myself to be responsible enough in my younger years to own one. So now that I’m going through my mid-life crisis, what better purchase than an absolute animal of a bike to step up from my Honda Monkey, right? Well, after a few short rides it was clearly evident that this beautiful Italian machine is the equivalent of having a pet tiger. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but I’m scared shitless of it. Additionally, it is in too much of an immaculate condition to grow into it so the best thing is to acknowledge that it is not for me and the best thing to do is to sell it.”
The odometer shows 4,597 miles. The seller purchased the bike four months ago and has covered approximately 100 miles.

The seller states the following service has been completed “Full annual service including, timing belt replacement, brake fluid flush, coolant flush and change radiator fluid, oil & filter change, new spark plugs, lube and adjust chain, check/adjust throttle cable. The tank recall was done on the bike back in 2012.”
