You wouldn’t be alone if you thought the MV Agusta F4 was the world’s most beautiful motorcycle – but styling is subjective. What can’t be argued is speed, and the F4 R 312 was, when released in 2008, the world’s fastest motorcycle. That’s where the “312” in the name comes from – it’s the MV’s top speed in kilometers. In miles, it’s 193.87. Whatever the unit, it’s an impressive number!

The extra grunt needed to set a speed record came from a combination of 30mm titanium intake valves, 48mm throttle bodies, and modified camshafts — all of which added nine horsepower (bringing the total up to 183 hp and 85 lb-ft of torque). The 312 is complemented by top-notch components such as Brembo monobloc brakes, Marzocchi suspension, and Marchesini forged wheels. MV Agusta sent 150 units to the US per WSBK homologation rules – 50 in each of 3 color options: white with black, black with grey, and Corsa red with silver like this historically significant example up for auction!

In 2006, MV Agusta decided to take on the Bonneville Salt Flats and attempt to capture the speed record for the 1000cc Production Class record and at an average speed of 185.882 mph (187.726 one-way) they succeeded – not too shabby for a showroom stock bike! They returned for the next two years to continue to build on that success and this is one of the two bikes that was used during that time.

It still has the race numbers from those years on the sides of the bike and the signatures of the factory staff at the Varese, Italy factory, who assembled this bike for the record attempts.

This example is VIN: ZCGAKFGM48V100728.

The dash does not power up, we cannot confirm the mileage.

In 2014, our friend Robb Talbott acquired this bike to put on display in his museum in Carmel, California. Abhi shared this and some other special MVs in Robb’s collection after a visit here in this story on Iconic.

The museum unfortunately closed in September 2024, after which this bike was sold to the current owner. He has kept it on display in his living room since in the same “as-raced” condition which reflects some corrosion from salt.
