When it was introduced in 1992, Aprilia’s SR50 was a revelation thanks to several features rarely or never-before found in the segment – liquid-cooling, double disc brakes, direct injection, and 13″ wheels. The clever features and sporty positioning has made it one of the most successful 50cc scooters of all time. Aprilia’s sold over one million of them; while it left the US market in 2015, it’s still available around the world.
1999 was the first year you could buy one in North America, and the model got a complete revamp in 2004. This second generation was offered in two versions worldwide – the base SR50 R (carbureted) and the SR50 R Factory (fuel injected). North America only got the Factory.
In addition to the updated styling and lion’s head graphics, the second generation saw significant updates to the frame and injection system which led to 60% less oil consumption and maintenance intervals that were twice as long.
But it wasn’t just the engine which impressed – unlike most 50cc scooters, the SR50 featured quality Grimeca disc brakes, excellent instrumentation, and a large aftermarket community for upgrades.
With the update in 2009, Aprilia switched engine production from Morini to Piaggio. The styling department also gave the SR50 R Factory some refreshed looks consistent with the rest of the Aprilia lineup.
Manufactured September 2008, this example is VIN: ZD4VFU00X9S001030. The seller acquired the bike from a private party in 2013.
The odometer shows 1,401 miles.
Maintenance:
During his ownership, the seller states that he has replaced the fuel injection system and fuel filter. In preparation for the listing, our service department performed a safety inspection. They note the following in their condition report:

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Aprilia is offered on a clean California title with current Planned Non-Operational (PNO) registration.
Per the CA DMV, it would cost $152 to make registration current through March 2025.
