Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2009 Harley Davidson XR1200.

Back in 2008, Harley-Davidson released the XR1200, a bike that eschewed the brand’s usual flash and filigree in favor of honest, corner-carving performance. At the time, Cycle World called it “without a doubt the best-handling production Harley to date.” With beefy inverted forks, dual front discs, a large under-tank airbox, and precision oil-cooled heads, it had all the makings of a real rider — not some parking lot prop.

And yet, motorcyclists here in the United States had to watch while those in Europe got to enjoy the fruits of Milwaukee’s labors. There simply didn’t seem to be enough market demand to justify bringing a sporty standard to American showrooms.

Eventually, Harley did quell the vitriol by releasing the XR stateside for a short-lived one year run (it was later replaced by the XR1200X). Power came from a highly-tuned 1200cc V-Twin good for some 91hp and 73lb-ft of torque — considerably more output than the XL1200, though not the only party trick the XR had up its sleeve. Cycle World says it best in their review: “It only took a few to realize that the XR1200 is without a doubt the best-handling production Harley to date.”

This example is VIN: 1HD1LA6169K457266. The seller purchased the bike mid January 2025 and states, “I knew the reputation of these XRs and saw one for sale locally. As I usually am a sport/tourer rider, this model piqued my interest. Made an appointment to check it out and rode it home. After a brief period of acclimation (my current stable is a 99 BMW R1100S and 2001 Ducati ST4), I found a groove with its vibe. I used it for brief errands around town and a few weekends jaunts on the rural roads in my area. Saw it, bought it, rode it and now it’s time for someone else to enjoy it.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 500 miles. The odometer shows 13,865 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Changed the oil upon purchase. Had a thorough inspection done and no problems reported. Unfortunately, I have no maintenance records. Everything works as it should and works really well.”

Modifications:
“Rear suspension, full exhaust and engine management module.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax G851 and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Supercorsa II tires with date codes of 5116 and 3721.

The sale includes one key and “Two complete Harley shop and parts books. They’re $250 if purchased as pdfs from a download site.”

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Other than a few minor signs of use, none to speak of. Shifter peg has been replaced and clutch cover has a mark where the bike leaned in a garage with rider still mounted. This happened with the previous owner.”
