Description

Please note: This listing comes from the Legendary Sportbikes Collection. The project was started to preserve and celebrate the golden age of sportbikes, a period the seller describes as “the transition from dual shock, air-cooled, two valve naked or bikini fairing bikes into single shock, liquid-cooled, four (or five) valve fully faired machines.” We will be creating a dedicated Legendary Sportbikes page as more of the collection comes to auction. Stay tuned!

The seller also provided a ride-along video if you’d like to hear this SXV550 in action.

Aprilia’s SXV550 was an absolute monster that journalists fell in love with as soon as it was released – Visor Down said “only nutters need apply“.

It’s a supermoto with a powerful V-Twin, excellent components, and race-bred pedigree: the bike had already won the S2 World Supermoto Championship as a prototype before it was released to the world. Unfortunately, early (2007) bikes had serious issues with the sealant used in the engine cases. If spotted quickly, you could reseal the motor and everything would be fine. If not, water would get into the oil and you’d be looking at a V-Twin paperweight. Thankfully, Aprilia had sorted it out by 2008, and customers were rewarded with a full-on race bike that was somehow street legal.

The Aprilia was a revolution in the world of supermoto, ditching the traditional single for a beefy V-Twin that popped out a staggering 70 horsepower at 10,500 rpm for a bike that weighed about 280 pounds! MCN said it was “going to change the way the world thinks about supermotos forever.”

The trade-off was service intervals, as the race maintenance schedule called for new pistons and a shim check after 60 hours. Regular street riding would increase that number by several factors, however. What else would you expect from a race bike with lights?

Manufactured January 2011, this example is VIN: ZD4VSU510BS000178. The seller purchased the bike two years ago from a private party and states, “Used to ride and track an SXV550 several years ago and loved it but sold it to start a family. Bought this to relive those glory days and quickly realized that my license was in danger. Still the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden and this one with the Akra exhaust is just explosive!”

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 320 miles. The odometer shows 4,706 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller states that he has “changed the oil and filter and replaced air filter with new.” The seller also had one of his technicians perform a safety inspection. He notes the following in his condition report:

Modifications:
Evoluzione slipper clutch.

Akrapovič exhaust system.

Aftermarket mirrors. Renthal handlebar pad.

Samco hoses. Wrapped mid pipe.

Braking rotors. Axle sliders.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Michelin Pilot Power tires with date codes of 0314 and 1314.

The sale includes one key.
