In 2007, Honda unveiled the CB1000R as an update for the 919 Hornet – but it took them four years to offer it in the United States. Like most naked literbikes, it utilized a detuned version of a superbike (in this case the CB1000RR) and enveloped it in a more comfortable package.
Where was it those first four years? In Europe, which is why much of the styling (such as the combination headlight/seven-bulb LED position light) was drastically different than what we were used to seeing from the Japanese firm.
Another major difference was the chassis, with the single-sided swingarm and model-specific four-spoke wheels.
In a 2011 review, Sport Rider praised the crisp low rpm throttle response, “great midrange power that is easy to manage”, and the nimble handling.
This example is VIN: ZDCSC6019BF200072. It is offered by the original owner, who bought it new in June of 2011 from Honda of Hollywood.
The seller is letting it go as he is paring down his collection – he recently sold a Honda VFR800 through Iconic Motorbike Auctions as well. The odometer shows 1,813 miles.
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us detail the bike and install a new battery, brake pedal, clutch lever, and left bar end. Daniel did the work and he recommends that the brake fluid and tires be changed if the next owner wishes to ride this motorcycle as it is still riding on Dunlop Sportmax Q2 tires from 2010.
Daniel also noted that it’s missing the left mirror and the rear turn signals.
Modifications:
This bike was originally black. In July of 2011, it was given a $3,500 custom paint job by The Harpoon, who incorporated a mix of Kandy Metallic and metal flake with hand striping and abalone shell throughout. The Harpoon has been a prolific painter in the Kustom scene for years, working with Chevrolet, Ford, and Chrysler on Kustom show prototypes. He’s also done extensive projects with Gene Winfield, a legend in the Kustom scene. The Harpoon is also the owner of Freedom Machine & Acc.
Gold painted or powdercoated wheels.
The sale includes two keys, Honda’s Riding Tips, Warranty Coverage booklet, Owner’s Identification Card, and the original Retail Installment Sale Contract.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Honda is offered on a clean California title with registration current through June 2022 (we have the current registration and sticker in our possession).
