In 1998, Yamaha changed the moto world forever with the introduction of the YZ400 4 stroke motocross bike – it delivered performance equal to or better than the two strokes that dominated the off-road racing market at the time. Leaning on their vast experience gained from road racing, Yamaha engineers created a single cylinder 4 stroke engine that made incredible power in a very lightweight package. The bike was heavier than a YZ250 by nearly 30 lbs, but its fast revving 4 stroke engine had a much broader power range and was excellent at putting that power down in slippery conditions.
Over the years, the size of the engine increased as well as refinement of the entire package. The 400 became the 426 and later the 450. In 2010, Yamaha had another game changer with a radically new YZF450 featuring a “reversed” liquid-cooled, 450cc, DOHC, 4-valve, single with fuel injection. The intake and exhaust swapped positions, the engine was slanted in the frame, a battery-less fuel injection system was used, and a focus on mass centralization made the already good handling even better. In 2012, Yamaha made refinements to the fuel injection, suspension, and exhaust.
More than a few people figured out that if you swapped on some 17’s with sticky tires, made some adjustments to the suspension, and added some larger brakes, that the YZF450 also made an incredible supermoto machine.
This example is VIN: JYACJ15C3CA017579.

He adds that it was given a “fresh service including valve adjustment, oil, air filter, new sprockets and x-ring chain less than 3 hours ago.”
