BMW originally debuted its HP — short for ‘High Performance’ — designation in 2005 with a series of HP2 models built around the venerable boxer twin. However, the Bavarian firm kicked things up a notch with the introduction of the HP4 in 2013.

Based on the already impressive S1000RR, it featured performance upgrades as far as the eye could see. Along with carbon fiber bodywork and forged wheels, it also boasted a lighter sprocket carrier, a titanium exhaust, and even a weight-saving battery. On the road, this meant that it was the lightest four-cylinder supersport in its class, tipping the scales at just 373lbs dry.

And here’s the thing; the HP4 wasn’t wanting for power. On the contrary — the 999cc inline-four was good for some 193 horses and 83lb-ft of torque. When coupled to a six-speed gearbox and a specially-designed Akrapović exhaust, this translated to a 0-60mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 186mph.

As if that wasn’t enough, the bike introduced BMW’s DDC (Dynamic Damping Control), the first suspension system of its kind in a production bike. In practice, it automatically adapts damping to conditions with various riding modes, including Rain and Sport for the road, and Race and Slick for the track.

The brakes on the HP4 were noteworthy as well. Much like the DDC system, the ABS featured four different riding modes, and it was based around a set of Brembo monoblock calipers.

Manufactured in March of 2013, this example is VIN: WB10D1105DZC96921, engine #: 1D4EA16138209. The seller purchased the bike two years ago from BMW of Seattle.

It is serial number 1,978.

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 1,600 miles. The odometer shows 4,622 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller reports that he had the bike Dyno tuned at Attack Performance in Huntington Beach, CA, where it measured 187 hp at the rear wheel:

It was most recently serviced at LAP Motorsports in Lake Forest, California. We spoke with David at LAP, who confirmed the extensive amount of modifications performed to this bike and says “whoever buys this will be getting an amazing bike.” The owner wanted to have a full Akrapovic system but the headers were unavailable by themselves, so he purchased a full system just to utilize the headers with the OEM HP4 muffler. At one point the owner had two HP4s, and he had LAP move the nicest parts from both bikes on to this one – they shared a video on social media from when that happened:
