In 2011, Ducati announced that they would be partnering with fashion company Diesel as a sponsor for their MotoGP race efforts. For the 2013 model year, Ducati and Diesel came together to create something for the public, a special edition of the Monster 1100 EVO that was styled by Diesel’s designers, led by founder Renzo Rosso. Renzo’s son Stefano was the Project Leader, and in this story on Asphalt & Rubber he is quoted as having said, “when we had the opportunity to work with Ducati, with last year’s MotoGP sponsorship, we discovered a whole world of shared values and common roots. That brought us the desire to create something new together, and we made it in the only way we know: taking the great know-how of both companies and mixing it with passion and creativity. The results are unique products, characterized by a great mix of design and technology.”
The Monster 1100 EVO (introduced as a 2012 model) featured the Ducati Safety Pack with traction control and ABS, Marzocchi forks, Sachs shock, and a 1,078cc L-Twin which was the first Ducati air-cooled 2V Monster motor to produced a claimed 100 horsepower.
Diesel’s styling touches included a military green paint job, yellow calipers, Diesel branding, and the opportunity for people to make jokes about how the engine wasn’t diesel-powered.
