The Gixxer has been a fixture in the sportbike world for decades, and Pops Yoshimura is famous for his involvement with Suzuki’s factory racing team. The two names have been closely intertwined for years, and one of the most recent collaborations is the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Yoshimura Limited Edition. Just 45 of these bikes were produced (15 in each displacement of 600/750/1000).

Yoshimura no longer has a page dedicated to this bike, however a quick trip with the Internet Archive Way Back Machine turns up this page from February of 2014. For posterity’s sake, we’ll include their press release so you can learn all about this rare Suzuki. Note that they mention red/black bikes but this is obviously in blue/black – we’ve only seen one other one in this colorway.

“Yoshimura is proud to announce the latest version of the Limited Edition Series. In this Millennium Year of the Suzuki GSX-R series with over a million GSX-R’s off the production line, we are excited to introduce the very Limited 2013 Series. Only 45 of these Limited Edition Series Bikes will be available, providing Dealers and consumers a unique opportunity to “Upgrade Their Status” by participating in this exclusive program.

Yoshimura introduced the Limited Edition Series at the American Suzuki show in Orlando Fla. last year and the response from dealers and consumers has been phenomenal. The latest version of these very unique motorcycles was unveiled at the recent Suzuki Dealer show in Las Vegas, NV and once again the response was fantastic with many dealers committing to carry the line.

With a stunning new paint scheme in Black and Red with gold pin striping the latest version raises the bar and offers consumers a chance to own something that is truly special. Available in 600/750 and 1000cc again production numbers will be very limited and model-mix will be determined by dealer demand.

Along with the new paint scheme, Yoshimura has added a radiator logo and substantial in-store merchandising support for the latest Limited. Consumers lucky enough to own one of these rare motorcycles will receive an owners appreciation package including a carbon fiber pen-holder with their name and a matching Limited Edition Badge attached so they can daydream at work knowing they own a piece of history.

Each one of the 45 Yoshimura Limited Edition GSX-R’s comes with a new paint scheme in Black and Red with gold pin striping. Each Limited Edition GSX-R also includes a Yoshimura R-77 Carbon Fiber EPA Noise-Compliant Slip-On (EPA Noise Compliant Slip-On meets EPA and CARB emissions requirements, and EPA Noise requirements), and a plethora of aircraft-grade aluminum CNC machined hard parts, including:

Fender Eliminator Kit (Fender Eliminator Kit included for display purposes only, does not come installed. NOT D.O.T. Approved. This part must never be used on a motorcycle that is operated on the street. For closed course competition use only.)

Engine Plug Kit
Oil Filler Plug Kit
Case Savers
Chassis Protectors

Axle Adjuster Blocks
Race Stand Stoppers

Steering Stem Nut

Bar Ends

Genuine Suzuki Solo Seat Cowl
Yoshimura Radiator Stencil

Individually Numbered Limited Edition Name-Badge
Note: These modifications meet EPA and CARB regulations and the motorcycle remains compliant with vehicle registration requirements.

Yoshimura Limited Edition GSX-R’s can only be ordered through an Authorized Suzuki Dealer. We do not sell them customer direct. If your dealership is not a Yoshimura Dealer, please contact sales@yoshimura-rd.com or call our sales department at (800) 634-9166 and we will get you set up to sell these incredible bikes.”

Thanks to Yoshimura for that info – now let’s talk about this specific bike (VIN: JS1GT78A1D2100639), which is #19 in the production run.

Some of the pieces from the original kit are missing such as carbon fiber pen-holder, the left bar end and the solo seat cowl. We have ordered a set of aftermarket bar ends and we will have them installed before the bike ships. The OEM version for this Yoshimura Limited Edition is no longer available.

It was accepted as a trade-in by our neighbors at Bartel’s Harley-Davidson, so the history is not well-known, but it runs well and simply needs a new owner to keep enjoying it!

The odometer shows 6,617 miles.

Damage on the left side suggests that it has had a lowside in the past.

It had been sitting for approximately a year, so in preparation for this auction we gave this Suzuki a bath, new battery, fluid flush, and new tires. It’s now ready to ride and we hope the next owner thoroughly enjoys it! Got any questions? Let us know in the comments and we’ll do our best to answer them.
