After several years of success with the K1200S, BMW updated it with the K1300S in October of 2008. The main difference was made clear in the name, a 1,293cc inline four engine that produced 175 horsepower and a healthy 103 lb-ft of torque.
With shaft drive, excellent wind protection, an impressive electronics suite, heated grips, and optional luggage, the K13S was a sport-tourer with some pep that would get you across states in comfort. As MCN put it, “the semi-sports riding position is sublimely comfortable and yet with enough purposefulness and aggression to imbibe its pilot with the cool arrogance expected of a Teutonic powerhouse-owner.”
In 2013, BMW celebrated the 30th anniversary of the K-series (started by the K100) with a special model of the K1300S. The 30th Anniversary model (formally called the “30 Jahre K-Modelle”) got:
Alpine white/Sapphire black metallic/Racing red paint, tinted windshield.
HP shift assistant (quick shifter), HP pegs for rider and passenger.
Akrapovic exhaust.
Heated grips.
