Upon its introduction in 1999, BMW’s R1150GS redefined the adventure bike category. By 2004, however, the model was beginning to show its age. In order to stay competitive, BMW had to give it an overhaul.
What resulted was the R1200GS, a platform that weighed some 66lbs lighter than its predecessor with the added benefit of a further 19hp.
Of course, BMW’s refinements didn’t end with the bike’s launch; over the years, the German motorcycle manufacturer continued to update the R1200GS. For 2007, the engine got an additional 5hp, while the brakes benefitted from a new Integral ABS II antilock system (without the noisy servo assistance). Assuming you wanted the absolute pinnacle of performance, BMW would also sell you optional add-ons such as electronic suspension adjustment and Automatic Stability Control.
In 2013, BMW debuted an all-new generation of their industry-defining GS series. After a 30+ year tradition of air/oil cooling, they moved to what’s become known as the “water boxer” engine, a liquid-cooled platform that boosted horsepower from 110 to 125, plus a healthy 92 lb-ft of torque.
This example is VIN: WB10A1208EZ095956. The seller purchased the bike privately seven years and had the sidecar custom made by DMC Sidecars of Washington state.
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 14,927 miles. The odometer shows 27,086 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller states, “I have done routine maintenance on this motorcycle and have all service records. I also had an issue around 2018 where the rear master cylinder went bad and caused the brake pads to not release so the bike got a new master cylinder and new rear rotor. I have no had any issues since. It hasn’t required anything in addition to new tires.”
Modifications:
Top box and panniers.
Per the seller, “The sidecar is a late 2017 DMC Expedition Sidecar with the following:”
– Electric trim. “‘Electric Trim’ is an actuator that raises and lowers the sidecar so you can adjust for road camber and weight of your passenger in the sidecar, keeping the sidecar tracking straight. A lot of rigs that don’t have this sort of “E-Trim” struggle to track straight, especially at highway speeds and fight their rider.”
– Removable surf rack. “We’ve used this rack to transport surfboards, Christmas trees, hardware store runs, shade, and anything else you can imagine. A great utilitarian add-on to a sidecar rig that is completely removable.”
– Windshield w/ apron tonneau cover.
– Automotive wheel and tire w/ spare.
– Front bumper w/ LED light bar.
Not shown: Integrated wiring harness.
It is riding on Michelin Anakee Adventure and Nexen tires with date codes of 4418.
The sale includes two keys and a spare side car tire (automotive tire).
