Completely revamped for 2015, the R1200R was BMW’s entry into the large displacement standard bike market – a big boxer twin that can trace its roots all the way back to the 1923 R32…though now it’s got the benefit of water cooling, which is why it produces 125 horsepower and 92 pound-feet of torque. Curb weight is 508 pounds, significantly svelter than its R1200 platform mates like the GS and RT.
The R1200R is packed with technology, including stability control, traction control, ABS, two riding modes (Road and Rain), and optional “Ride Modes Pro” that incorporates an IMU with a lean angle sensor to take the traction control to another level. It’s comfortable and capable, perfect for the rider that wants to go fast for hours on end.
Optional electronic suspension is paired with Brembo brakes, and the overall package was good enough to get on Cycle World’s “Ten Rest of the Best” list – for more on what this generation of the R1200R is like to live with, check out this Cycle World road test.
