With an update for its 50th anniversary 2009, Triumph gave the Bonneville a lovely blend of modern and retro – it introduced Keihin fuel injection but kept the look of carbs feeding the 865cc parallel twin engine. Triumph claimed 67 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 51 lb-ft at 5,800 rpm. Between the classic style and the approachable drivetrain, the fuel-injected Bonnie became a popular platform for customization.
The bike you see before you was built by British Customs for pro surfer Chippa Wilson. Per the build sheet, he wanted a bike that “he could chase adventures on as well as take for long, easy cruises. Inspired by Steve McQueen, the King of Cool, and his 1960s proto-adventure bikes he called ‘desert sleds,’ which were street bikes that had been modified to be ridden off-road. In the spirit of how those bikes were built, the Beach Sled uses only bolt-on parts and common tools. The result is what you see: a completely transformed custom motorcycle ready to be taken anywhere. This is the second version of the original Beach Sled, with slight changes such as paint and luggage.”
