Description

Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

The Yamaha XJR1300 was first introduced in 1998 as a successor to the popular Yamaha XJR1200. It was designed as a muscular, retro-styled motorcycle that pays homage to the classic motorcycles of the past. Over the years, Yamaha made refinements to the engine to improve performance and comply with changing emission regulations which included fuel system upgrades, revised intake and exhaust systems, and engine mapping adjustments. For 2015, the XJR1300 was packed with a brawny 1251cc inline-four, putting out roughly 97 hp and 80 ft-lb of torque. Coming packed with features such as Ohlins suspenions, dual 298mm front disc brakes, and comfortable ergonomics, the XJR was the ideal muscle-cruiser platform. It was on this platform that Danish motorcycle company Wrenchmonkees built their newest custom – the Skullmonkee.

Built in collaboration with Yamaha for their ‘Yard Built’ program, Wrenchmonkees aimed to build a muscle cruiser that was distinctly their style, yet still retaining the essence and overall silhouette of the original model – the XJR1300 – all while aiming to not cut or weld any parts on the bike. The builders pulled straight from their own garage for the custom job, including bespoke CNC-milled signature triple trees and engine covers, amongst other handcrafted parts. Finishing off the look of this one-off build was a eye-catching gloss black paint job with a signature ‘Skullmonkee’ emblem, accented by subtle gold touches throughout the build.

For further info on the build, we’ll reference the official Yamaha ‘Yard Built’ article.
