Description
Additional photos of this 2016 BMW R1200R are available here for your perusal.
Completely revamped for 2015, the R1200R was BMW’s entry into the large displacement standard bike market – a big boxer twin that can trace its roots all the way back to the 1923 R32…though now it’s got the benefit of water cooling, which is why it produces 125 horsepower and 92 pound-feet of torque. Curb weight is 508 pounds, significantly svelter than its R1200 platform mates like the GS and RT.
The R1200R is packed with technology, including stability control, traction control, ABS, two riding modes (Road and Rain), and optional “Ride Modes Pro” that incorporates an IMU with a lean angle sensor to take the traction control to another level. It’s comfortable and capable, perfect for the rider that wants to go fast for hours on end.
Optional electronic suspension is paired with Brembo brakes, and the overall package was good enough to get on Cycle World’s “Ten Rest of the Best” list – for more on what this generation of the R1200R is like to live with, check out this Cycle World road test.
This example (VIN: WB10A1408GZ197189) is being offered by the original owner. He listed it on Iconic four months ago and it did not meet reserve, however we are allowing him to relist it as he has significantly lowered the reserve this time around to find this bike a new owner.
The odometer shows 40,276 miles.
While there appear to be several scuffs throughout, the bodywork and bags have been wrapped so that the original surfaces are in good condition. Some of the wrap edges have slightly peeled.
The seller has documentation going back to his original purchase at Alcoa Good Times in Louisville, TN, where he purchased the bike for $20,972. It was purchased with the Premium Package, which included GPS prep, cruise control, center stand, luggage rack, saddlebag mount, Dynamic ESA, Pro on-board computer, heated grips, tire pressure monitor, Pro headlight, chrome exhaust, and Keyless Ride. It is also equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter.
In addition, the seller purchased BMW key-synced hard bags.
The seller has a complete service history and can provide all records except for the most recent oil/filter and air filter change, which he performed himself. The bike is currently equipped with Michelin Road 5 tires with approximately 2,000 miles of life left in them.
Modifications:
SW-Motech crash bars.
Aftermarket heavyweight bar ends and foam grips.
Clearwater Erica lights w/yellow inserts and protective covers AND Billie programmable pulsating brake light license plate holder with CANOpener.
Sport and Touring aftermarket windshields from ZTechnik. The touring windshield is at the seller’s previous home in New York and will be shipped to the new owner if they desire.
SW Motech aftermarket foot pegs/adapter.
Wunderlich Ergo Plus aftermarket bar risers.
The sole mechanical issue is that the analog speedometer does not go above 5 miles per hour. It is a known possible issue with the R1200R, and can be seen briefly in the video at the top of this listing. The seller has switched the digital side of the cluster to show speed instead.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica (please make an appointment if you’d like to inspect it), this R1200R is offered on a clean New York title.
