For 2014, BMW gave their classic boxer sport-tourer a complete redesign centered around the liquid-cooled 1,170cc opposed-twin engine that debuted in the GS the year prior. A slightly heavier flywheel was implemented to smooth out power delivery of the 125 horsepower and hefty 92 lb-ft of torque.
2015 brought keyless ignition, and 2016 added an additional color option to the line. It’s an impressive package that allows the rider to cover all kinds of distance in speed and comfort, with ample technological features like the Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) option, a 5.7″ TFT screen, and multiple ride modes with an optional Pro mode.
The RS slots in between the R and RT. Slightly heavier with more options than the R, and a bit sportier but less features than the RT. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive of the sport tourer. Bike Me! said of the machine, “BMW’s R1200RS is the greatest iteration of the venerable boxer ever made. This is a bike that is so close to perfect in terms of handling, power-delivery comfort, ease-of-use, and general feel, it is hard to imagine what possible improvements could be made to it.”
This example is VIN: WB10A150XGZ378616. The seller purchased the bike July 2018 and states, “I’m reluctantly posting my beloved 2016 R1200RS. I bought this from the original owner located in NJ. The bike had a mere 125 miles on it at the time and was still under warranty. Every option – PREMIUM PACKAGE with heated grips, cruise control, quick-shifter, saddle bags, keyless start with TWO FOBS ($500 each), notebook with detailed service records. 9,967 miles. BRAND NEW Michelin Pilot Sport 6s with ZERO miles. FRESH synthetic oil change with fresh filter. Remus slip-on just installed, stock chrome exhaust included, MachineartMoto engine guards, Puig rear hugger, new Yuasa HP battery installed 1.5 years ago. ALL service records from new in a large notebook and a journal of maintenance including oil analyses. No issues whatsoever, ready to rock and roll and pile on the miles. I have too many bikes and need to pare down, so this one is very reluctantly going. This bike has been absolutely wonderful and well loved. Always stored indoors. I am happy to assist in delivery at buyer’s expense.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 9,700 miles. The odometer shows 9,971 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I have extensive maintenance from the dealer including oil changes, drive line services, tires and more. The bike has brand new Michelin Pilot 6s with O miles on them. It also has a fresh synthetic oil change with Motul oil and a BMW filter.”
