In 2016, Triumph completely revamped the Thruxton – the evolved looks still captured retro magic, but there was a tremendous bump in performance – especially when it came to the up-spec R version. MCN named it the Best Retro of 2016, calling it “an intoxicating mixture of retro style-meets 21st century performance and technology.”
They admired features which included Brembo monoblocs with ABS, traction control, Ohlins shocks, Showa Big Piston forks, electronic riding modes, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires. MCN’s gushing continued thanks to the “High Torque” 1,200cc parallel twin engine that produced 96 horsepower and 83 ft-lbs of torque: “it was more than just a styling job. It was a fine-handling, fast, easy to ride and above all fun motorcycle in its own right and even had a devilish appetite for skids and wheelies when you turned the electronics off.”
This example is VIN: SMTD21HFXGT752499. Per the seller: “I purchased it from the original owner, 80 years old. He kept all the manuals, spare keys, and documents that came with the bike. It was one of the first 250 sold in the states and comes with a signed card and gold clutch cover in the box. Also he included a copy of motorcyclist magazine featuring a Thruxton R on the cover. I have all the stock parts. I’ve only put 200 miles on it in 2 1/2 years. Keeping it garaged at all times. It is like new, ready for someone to ride it or put it in the living room a stare at it.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 150 miles. The odometer shows 1,310 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller states that he has not had cause to perform maintenance under his ownership. The prior owner had a recall performed on the sidestand spring.
Modifications:
British Customs slip-on exhaust.
It is riding on tires from 2015.
The sale includes two keys, the original owner’s manual and documents, a copy of Motorcyclist Magazine, as well as the stock take-off parts and lower bar clamps. The seller also notes that “as it was one of the first 250 sold in the states, it came with a signed card and gold clutch cover in the box.”
