Description

Please note: We do our best to use different photo sets each time a bike comes to auction. Unfortunately, this example is located in a storage facility where it is impractical to obtain new photographs, but the seller states that it looks identical to how it is represented in the existing pictures. Additionally, this prototype has been decommissioned; many parts related to making it functional (e.g., battery, spark plugs, etc.) have been removed or deactivated.

Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

Each year, the Progressive International Motorcycle Show attracts some truly innovative (and some truly wild) two-wheeled concepts. Back in 2016, an emerging startup by the name of VANGUARD Moto used the event as an opportunity to unveil the very bike you see before you.

As the product of three years’ worth of development, it was a fully functional prototype of what should have been the New York-based company’s first production model: the Roadster. Despite its undeniably futuristic appearance, the bike was grounded in today’s technology. It featured real-world components from Brembo and Öhlins, and it incorporated many ambitious-but-possible concepts such as a “frameless structural engine,” a unitized crankcase, as well as an integrated exhaust. If the big V-twin looked familiar, it’s because it’s the same S&S X-Wedge used by the likes of ARCH and Curtiss (Confederate) motors.

At the time, the vision was promising. VANGUARD had arranged the factory, the suppliers, and the financing. Even the bike’s intended $29,995 MSRP seemed reasonable (especially when you consider that other ultra-high-end designs would run you more than double that number).

As things would have it, though, VANGUARD Moto would not survive to see its Roadster enter production. The company filed bankruptcy in 2017, shuttering its doors and liquidating its assets. After covering its initial testing mileage, the prototype was converted into a collection piece, the only existing copy of the machine.

Due to the fact that this bike is a prototype, it does not have a VIN. The seller acquired the bike here on Iconic Motorbike Auctions. The seller had an arrangement to display the Vanguard at his office; unfortunately, after the purchase, the seller’s employer terminated its lease early and decided not to permit the display.

True mileage is unknown.

It is riding on Metzeler Marathon ME888 tires.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
