Unveiled at EICMA in late 2016 and launched for the 2017 model year, the Ducati Scrambler Café Racer was created in an effort to cash in on the production turnkey cafe craze of the 2010s. The first year model featured a striking “Black Coffee” color scheme paired with gold wheels and the race number 54—a tribute to legendary Ducati Grand Prix rider Bruno Spaggiari.
In terms of style and design ergonomics, the 2017 Café Racer sets itself apart from the standard Scrambler family with aggressive, race-inspired geometry and details. It replaces wide, upright handlebars with aluminum clip-ons mounted to the 41mm Kayaba inverted forks, complete with bar-end mirrors for a low-slung, café profile. It sported a custom-inspired seat, a short front mudguard, and a retro front fairing surrounding a round headlight. Riding on 17-inch cast alloy wheels shod in sticky Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires—a direct shift from the knobbier 18-inch front found on standard Scramblers—the bike offers a much sharper, front-biased stance and tighter handling geometry.
Underneath the vintage styling, the bike is powered by Ducati’s proven 803cc air- and oil-cooled L-twin Desmodromic engine, delivering 73 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 49 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm. The Euro 4-compliant motor feeds through a six-speed transmission paired with an APTC wet multi-plate clutch that features a slipper function to prevent rear-wheel chatter during heavy downshifts. Other details included a dual-exit Termignoni exhaust with black anodized covers and a single 330mm front disc clamped by a radial-mount Brembo Monobloc M4.32 four-piston caliper that came fully backed by Bosch ABS as standard equipment.
This example is VIN: ZDM15ANM0HB020826.
The odometer shows 4,855 miles.
