In 2016, Triumph completely revamped the Thruxton – the evolved looks still captured retro magic, but there was a tremendous bump in performance – especially when it came to the up-spec R version. MCN named it the Best Retro of 2016, calling it “an intoxicating mixture of retro style-meets 21st century performance and technology.”

They admired features which included Brembo monoblocs with ABS, traction control, Ohlins shocks, Showa Big Piston forks, electronic riding modes, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires.

MCN’s gushing continued thanks to the “High Torque” 1,200cc parallel twin engine that produced 96 horsepower and 83 ft-lbs of torque: “it was more than just a styling job. It was a fine-handling, fast, easy to ride and above all fun motorcycle in its own right and even had a devilish appetite for skids and wheelies when you turned the electronics off.”
