Description
Additional photos of this Suter MMX 500 are available here for your perusal.
Whilst competing in the 250cc World Championships, Eskil Suter founded Suter Racing Technology. Over the years, his company has developed a reputation for excellence in motorcycle chassis design with work in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, WSBK, MXGP, and S1GP. Those are some impressive classes, but Suther has made the most headlines, by far, for what some have called the “Ultimate Two-Stroke Track Bike” – the MMX 500.
It’s hard to describe this machine in words, but we’ll have to try. Here’s the absurd summary:
576cc two-stroke V4 motor with double counter rotating crankshafts and electronic fuel injection producing 195 horsepower at 13,000 rpm
280 pounds
$139,000+ MSRP
Just 18 built.
Claimed top speed of 190+ miles per hour.
There are so many articles available on what it’s like to ride the MMX 500 – check out Roadracing World, Motorcyclist, or VisorDown – and they will all tell you how the Suter is completely packed with top-notch components.
But the common thread with any story about this bike is that it’s as close as non-factory-backed-racers can get to riding one of the legendary two-stroke 500cc monsters that once dominated Grand Prix racing. We’re excited to give you that rare opportunity today.
This example is #69/99, and we have a little bit of history with it. The original owner was Michael Woolaway, the former Design Director of Deus Ex Machina’s US location in Venice, California. He originally sold it through us in July of 2020 to a private party in Arizona. While the plan was for Suter to build 99 examples, Woolie said that “I was told by Alessandro Giussani, the engineer that designed the bike that there have only been 18 of these bikes built. They intended to limit the total number to 99 but did not find the ability to sell that many, and the serial number was a choice by the buyer from 1 to 99.”
In Michael’s words: “I bought this bike about one year ago and I put 800 kilometers on it, then took the motor out and sent it back to Suter. They built a completely new motor with all of the design updates that had been implemented since my bike was built and shipped to California.” With just 18 examples produced, the MMX 500 is quite rare. But this is even more rare as it’s one of the very few with a completely updated engine and mapping which makes the bike much more manageable to ride.
“The motor was run in on a dyno and inspected before shipping back to me. This bike has the latest mapping and is making just below 200 horsepower at the rear wheel.”
The bike was never ridden during the current owner’s possession – it was solely put on display. He sent it to us to sell and we fired it up again (please see the video up top) to verify that it runs.
The odometer reading shows 1.1 kilometers, we believe that represents the break-in mileage put in on the dyno:
The sale includes a Valter Moto rear wheel stand and a Valter Moto front stand, however the top of the front stand is broken.
The sale also includes the owner’s manual, parts diagram and a tremendous amount of spare parts (roughly $5,000 worth). Close-up photos of the spare parts are available in the photo album up top. Here’s the parts list:

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment if you’d like to inspect it), this Suter is offered on a clean Oregon title. Have any MMX500 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab! Abhi saw Woolie and his bike at a Alpinestars Family and Friends track day a couple of years ago, and it got more attention than anything else there. Will it be your turn to enjoy the glory?
