Description

Click here for an CycleVIN Motorcycle History Report on this 2018 Yamaha R1. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

The 1990s were defined by three sportbikes – the Honda CBR900RR, the Ducati 916, and the Yamaha R1. Honda’s CBR900RR started the revolution by being 76 pounds lighter than its lightest competition. Soon after, Ducati released the 916. It was technically competent with fuel injection and even an adjustable steering head angle, but it’s best remembered just for being one of the most beautiful motorcycles of all time. In 1998, Yamaha released the R1 and wiped the floor with everyone else – it was the lightest and most powerful literbike available and you had to work hard to find a dealer with one in stock.

The bike has always been competitive in the superbike world, but it shot back up to the top of the pack with a redesign in 2015 that earned it win after win in press shootouts. MCN said, “Yamaha created a superbike to beat the best of its European rivals.” Cycle World said, “as a package, the R1 is class leading.” Jalopnik started their review with, “Every once in a while, a motorcycle comes along that changes things. A bike that doesn’t need to have its worth justified or qualified – a bike that’s just plain good. The 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 is one of those bikes.”

This bike was then taken to the next level by Attack Performance, who built it as a track bike with replica Crescent Racing bodywork for a client. Manufactured in April of 2018, this example is VIN: JYARN39Y2JA001757. The seller acquired it two years ago from Wheels In Motion through Iconic Motorbikes – he bought it before the auction was scheduled to go live and then had us turn it back into a street bike. He is letting it go as he is moving out of the country.

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 12,000 miles. The odometer shows 13,256 miles.

Modifications:
Rotobox carbon fiber wheels, Akrapovic full exhaust.

LighTech fuel cap.

Attack Performance triple clamps, Ohlins forks, AiM Solo 2 DL (Data Logger) lap timer.

Samco race hose kit.

Attack Performance rearsets.

Attack Performance swingarm spools.

Attack Performance shift lever.

Ohlins TTX rear shock.

GB Racing engine guards.

Brembo brake master cylinder, Attack Performance brake lever guard.

Woodcraft axle sliders.

StompGrip tank grips and FX tank protector.

Known Maintenance:
The seller has had Iconic Motorbikes maintain this bike during his ownership:
9/20: make the bike street legal with Graves undertail, Graves rear turn signals, install tail light, wire blinkers to stock wiring loom, install undertail kit, iJDMTOY projector fog lights, install stomp grip tank pads, install brake lever guard, Pirelli tires.

2/21: Inspect overheating issue – bled cooling system and added 5oz of coolant – let bike idle and heat cycle for 20 minutes, fans came on and off several times, bike did not exceed normal operation temp. Took bike for test ride and no abnormal cooling issues/leaks found. Inspected cooling system and suspect leak from water pump hard line under certain riding conditions – recommend replacing o-rings from water pump feed and return lines. Also gave it a detail, new water pump, o-rings, refill cooling system, EBC HH rear pads, Vesrah front pads,
3/21: Dunlop Q4 tires, install GoPro mounts, clean up and tape wrap front wiring harness, detail, chain service, clean rear caliper and pads, add anti-seize behind pads.
5/21: New air filter, coolant repair leak.
11/21: Dunlop Q4 tires, oil and filter change, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, DID 520 chain, white led lights.
4/22: Prep for listing: detail, new battery
