Yamaha’s R1 has always been competitive in the superbike world, but it shot back up to the top of the pack with a redesign in 2015 that earned it win after win in press shootouts.
For instance, MCN said, “Yamaha created a superbike to beat the best of its European rivals.” Cycle World echoed such a sentiment, stating, “as a package, the R1 is class leading.”
And the praise didn’t stop there — Jalopnik started their review with, “Every once in a while, a motorcycle comes along that changes things. A bike that doesn’t need to have its worth justified or qualified – a bike that’s just plain good. The 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 is one of those bikes.”
While we could go on about the merits of Yamaha’s R1 platform, we’ll let the seller tell the story of this particular example. He notes that “this motorcycle was purchased direct from Richard Stanboli of Attack Performance at the conclusion of the 2020 MotoAmerica Superbike season. It was tested by both Cameron Beaubier and Garrett Gerloff, and raced by Garrett Gerloff.
I raced it the entire 2021 MotoAmerica Superbike season, so approximately 6,500 miles all total. However, I have two engines for this motorcycle that are rebuilt by Attack Performance after every 1,500 miles. I am selling it now because I have aged out of the Superbike class and I could use the money to fund my Twins Cup season.”
This example is VIN: RN39E000004.
There is no odometer, true mileage is unknown. The seller notes that the bike has covered “approximately 1,000 miles on the rebuilt engine.”
Maintenance:
The seller states that “the engine has been rebuilt every 1,500 miles. I have all the invoices from Attack performance. Forks and shock serviced trackside by Öhlins technicians. I can also put people in touch with Richard Stanboli if a serious buyer wants verification.”
Modifications:
“The only things stock on this bike is the frame, subframe, and engine cases. Some parts including the oversized tank have been manufactured by Attack Performance. It is built to WSBK spec with Magnetti Marelli electronics and corresponding data/software/laptop for configuring to US tracks.”
