While its exotic offerings are rare to see here in the United States, TM Racing has made quite the name for itself over in Europe. Founded in 1977 by a pair of childhood friends, the boutique Italian outfit has numerous World Championship wins to its name along with an armload of manufacturers titles. TM currently employs around 70 staffers, runs a trio of wildly successful competition teams, and produces MX, Enduro, and Supermotard models of both the two- and four-stroke variety. The Pesaro-based company reportedly churns out around 2,000 units per year, with around 200 of TM’s stock destined to come stateside.
If you’d like to learn more about TM Racing as a brand, check out this factory tour series:
In the case of the SMX 450 being offered here today, TM Racing has pulled out all the stops. Powered by a 449cc four-stroke single with liquid cooling and titanium valves, it’s good for some 65 ponies. To keep the platform in check, TM fitted the SMX with Marzocchi front suspension, an in-house TM shock, and a Brembo-Nissin braking setup.
Of course, being an exotic Italian brand, you’ll also find that TM Racing offers premium extras for the performance-inclined. This particular example sports upgrades such as an electronic start, a Brembo M4.34 caliper, a CNC-machined billet clutch cover and linkage, Excel rims, and Adler anti-hopping clutch.
This example is VIN: ZEXMG4ACXKA000267. The seller purchased the bike in June 2021 from Edward Kennedy of Kennedy Racing in Florida. He had originally acquired the bike to race AHRMA, though his plans have since changed. He notes that “there are some nice Sumo tracks around the country where it’s not quite as hot right now as it is at our three sumo tracks here in SoCal. Supermoto is a great way to train for Roadracing in that it’s cheaper to run, cheaper to ride, and easier to recover from a crash. You can race big tracks in AHRMA without any dirt sections, the AMA has a national Sumo series, and there may even be a sumo series “near you” where its fun to play/race if you’re into that sort of thing, Keith Culver, Yamaha Champions school was a local series winner in Vet. Asphalt only, so possibilities abound.”
The seller states that he purchased the bike as “a dealer demo. The dealer stated it has seen approximately 5 hours.” During his ownership, he rode the bike for one session. There is no odometer; true mileage is unknown.
