In 2014, Yamaha released a new standard that was an instant hit – the FZ-09 (later changed to MT-09) offered an impressive amount of performance for the price, immediately being named Best Middleweight by Cycle World in 2014 and then Best Standard in 2015.
The MT-09 Tracer (later changed to Tracer 900) came a year later and was intended for sporty yet comfortable riding in both urban and touring environments. It featured an upright riding position, partial fairings, a bigger tank, hand guards, traction control and more. With so many functional features paired with the engine which still produced 115 horsepower and 65 pound-feet of torque at the crank it’s no wonder the bike received loads of high praise, MCN called the Tracer, “both immensely versatile and thrillingly invigorating.”
Starting in 2018 Yamaha offered an up-speced Tracer GT, like this bike here, sporting color matched hard saddlebags, quick shifter, heated grips, electronic cruise control, TFT dashboard, fully adjustable front fork, and remote preload adjustable rear shock. Abhi rode the bike over 1,300 miles from Washington state to Los Angeles and for more info you can check out his thoughts and journey here and here.
Manufactured March 2018, this example is VIN: JYARN62E9KA000429.
