After spending nearly two decades honing its sportbike formula with the R1100RS and the HP2, BMW finally materialized its progress in the form of the S1000RR. It was a release that turned the race replica segment on its head, proving once and for all that the Germans could beat the Japanese at their own game.

When it launched in 2009, the “RR” introduced a number of firsts to the production motorcycle market. In addition to an optional quick shifter, it also featured ABS, dynamic traction control, and a customizable four-mode riding system. What’s more, it boasted the largest bore and stroke of any liter bike at the time — a potent 80mm x 49.7mm. On the road, this meant that the 999cc transverse four-banger made some 193hp and 82.6lb-ft of torque, enabling a top speed of 186mph and a 0-60mph sprint of 3.1 seconds.

Since that time, BMW has only continued to improve on its original effort, refining the concept with slippery aero, a strengthened frame, some reworked suspension, and a set of stronger brakes.

The fourth generation S1000RR arrived in 2018, and was — by far — the most powerful, most performance-oriented version of the model yet. The liquid-cooled engine put down 204hp and 83lb-ft of torque, and the combination of hollow-bored titanium valves and BMW ShiftCam technology allowed it to rev all the way to 14,600 rpm.

The owner (a well-known RC51 enthusiast) recently acquired a Ducati Desmosedici through Iconic Motorbikes and is selling this BMW to make room. This bike is equipped with the “M Package.” Per a review in Maxim magazine (written by our very own Abhi who attended the press launch for this bike at Barber): “For an additional $3,700, the M Package includes carbon fiber wheels, a lightweight battery, track-oriented seat, the ability to customize all the trick electronic features with a vaguely named feature called “Ride Modes Pro,” and the lovely BMW Motorsport-inspired white/red/blue livery.

Adding aftermarket carbon fiber wheels alone would cost you just about the same amount as the entire M Package, but now they include a factory warranty. The wheels provide the bulk of the additional 7-pound weight savings of the M package, which brings down the total pounds to 427.”

The odometer shows 9,158 miles.

Maintenance:
The front carbon fiber wheel was replaced under warranty in March of 2022 with 7,490 miles. The rear rim was later replaced, also under warranty. “All warranty recalls were performed as notification was received and up to date as of 3/25.” In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, flush the hydraulic fluids, change the oil, and clean/adjust/lube the chain.
